The J-corp, Jr. program is administered by The Laurasian Institution and a Japanese non-profit organization.

The mission of the J-Corps, Jr. program is to build greater mutual understanding of the cultures of the United States and Japan among the American and Japanese participants in the high school community. Since 1985, many American schools began offering the study of Japanese language in their schools. Currently, there are nearly 1,000 pre-collegiate schools offering Japanese. This J-corps Jr. program expects the exchange student to share in the learning of Japanese and Japanese culture with their peers and in turn receive help from the American students with the English language work. Because of this programēs goals, participants will be able to contribute to the host school by being a lively and engaged čstudent cultural ambassador.

Since 1990, The Laurasian Institution has facilitated the study of and travel to Japan for over 2000 students and teachers at the pre-collegiate level through the New Perspectives: Japan program. The reports we receive from teachers and students alike about the value of the experience are heartening. In order to extend a similar opportunity to students in Japan, The Laurasian Institution will bring a select group of pre-collegiate students from Japan to become high school exchange students in the United States through the J-corps, Jr. program. This program is designed as a high-quality, one or two semester study abroad program to the United States for Japanese secondary school. All Japanese exchange students have been guaranteed a placement in public or private schools with good academic standards. All host schools are recognized by the appropriate educational authorities in the United States and have Japanese language programs.

To ensure that the mission of the program is achieved, a unique feature of J-corps, Jr. program is that the Japanese exchange students are contributing to enhance of the host schoolsē Japanese language program. As a native, teenage Japanese speaker, the Japanese exchange student attends one Japanese language class per day at the host school, sharing contemporary Japanese language and culture, thereby enhancing his or her American peersē efforts to learn about Japan. In exchange, the exchange studentēs understanding of American culture and its educational system will be improved through his/her unique role as a cultural bridge. This allows for meaningful sharing to occur between the exchange student and American students.
