Program Support
Once the J-corps, Jr. Program stars, program consultants from The Laurasian Institution are available to deal with a variety of issues that might arise, including challenges in cultural adjustment and effective use of J-corps, Jr. students. When necessary, there is more frequent contact among a host teacher, a J-corps, Jr. student, a host familiy and the program consultants. Support will be available by phone, fax, and e-mail. Site visits will only take place in the event of emergencies.

Participating J-corps, Jr. schools are expected to recognize the J-corps, Jr. students are exchange students, not substitutes or student teachers. J-corps, Jr. students share in the learning of Japanese and Japanese culture with their peers and in turn receive help from the American students with the English language work.

The J-corps, Jr. program will contribute $500 to the Japanese language teacher. As is very common, most teachers often spend their own money to purchase classroom materials. While $500 may not cover the entire yearly expense outlay of the Japanese language teacher, it will hopefully reduce some of the burden. In exchange, we would like the Japanese language teacher to provide short, monthly emails to TLI regarding the adjustment process of the exchange student. This information will be relayed back to the student’s parents.
