Program Participants
J-corps, Jr. students
The uniqueness of the J-corps, Jr. program is that the J-corps exchange
student will be placed in a high school where Japanese language
is taught. This design feature has a major benefit over other exchange
programs.
First, the exchange student participates in one Japanese class per day, helping
the teacher with sharing contemporary Japanese language with the
student¡s peers. This in turn motivates the American students to want to communicate with someone in their own age group. As the program will require the J-corps, Jr. student to have an area of Àexpertise² that might be of interest to American students, the J-corps, Jr. student will share this skill with the students of your school. Through sharing their talents, this will further stimulate your students¡ interests
in Japan.
Second, the J-corps, Jr. student will have a special orientation program in Japan
to prepare him or her for this special experience. During this program,
the exchange student will learn about Japanese language education
programs in the U.S. and what types of questions they may expect
to be asked by their peers who are studying Japanese. The students
will also be coached on how they can share their background with
others in a meaningful way.
